Personal
Story:
Same story as the SAS Assault Vehicle.
I was already into the Special Force series by now and I was browsing
through Medicom's site. That's where I saw these lovely figures. It
was a limited Mail Order item so I was having problems finding it.
People in Japan were selling them on Ebay but they were way too expensive.
So I started checking out some online import sites and finally found
them. But this particular site kept delaying their arrival. Finally,
another site sent a newsletter out telling me they had it. Great,
I grabbed them immediately. Then I found out another site had them
too but they were cheaper. Damn! Oh well, impulse shopping is definitely
the devil. I paid less than what the Ebay dudes were offering, but
I paid more than this other online import store. Give or take. At
least I know paid for their retail price... |

Introduction:
These Kubrick figures are based on the SAS Special Forces in the
80's. These were originally made for the Medicom Toy Collector's Club
only. But they were available for a limited time in some stores later
on. They were sold as a set of four only. |

Sculpt:
The first thing you'll notice about these SAS figures (compared
to the SAS from the first series) is that
they are more detailed and much more fully realized. The mask is
the real winner here. They have clear goggles unlike the original
and their filters are better sculpted. The hood is also wonderfully
sculpted with all the little creases. The molded vest is unique
to their own. Other than that, they are pretty standard in relation
to other Kubricks. The guns are somewhat standard other than the
fact they have those arm rests this time. Nothing special.
The
most disappointing thing about them is that all four are exactly
the SAME. They have the same guns and the same faces. Bummer. It
would've been nice if they were each different in their own way.
Maybe each one should've had a different accessory or a different
face at least. But Medicom got lazy and gave us quadruplets. Too
bad considering they are mail order limited. It would've kicked
ass if they were all different.

Paint:
The paint job is okay. The mask is the best part about them. Unlike
the original SAS figures, their hood is painted with a dull gray while
the mask itself is glossy black. Nice details. The vest has some details
but not enough to point out anything unique. Nothing out of the ordinary. |

Overall:
B+
These are good but not great. Fans of the original SAS figures
(like me) will get a kick out of them. But since they're only sold
as a set of four, it would've been real nice if each figure had something
unique about them. Also, since they are so limited, Medicom should've
put more effort into adding more bonuses. Kubrick Special Force collectors
will love them, the rest might be disappointed. |

Where
can I find this?
They were very hard to find when they first appeared but some
online import stores started selling them (as of this review), so
if you look hard enough, you'll find them. If you can't find it,
go to auction sites like Ebay.

The box. The box is larger and longer than the standard Kubrick
boxes because it holds all four of the figures. It's great how they
made it look like the box design from the first Special Force series.
The same red background except the SAS figure here is updated. Pretty
odd how they depict the gloves and holster as being brown when they're
actually black on the figures.
