Cardcaptor
Sakura Series 2
Review date: 1/11/2005
Released:
2005

Very
well made with a lot of nice new ideas (and costumes!). The sculpt
themselves are consistent with the first
series and they look very good. The faces are all accurate and
have unique expressions. I really like Sakura figure's face in the
yellow outfit since it wasn't your typical I'm-so-happy Sakura.
She looks more like she's teasing you with a sultry look. The clothes
ripple and fold just like in the first series with a lot of life
and movement. One new idea I really like was the base for the Sakura
figure in the pink outfit. It's actually a clear base sculpted like
the wind swirling around her feet. It's very cool and I'm wondering
why this hasn't been done before. It's a unique base and it looks
great. The rest of the bases are the same little stands we saw in
the first series. I'm hoping they'll come up with more unique bases
for the figures in the future. I also have to mention that they
all stand up VERY well compared to the figures in the first series.
They're a lot more stable without support which was great.
Another
great new idea was the inclusion of one of the Clow Card creatures,
Windy. She's included with the yellow-costumed Sakura. Windy is
sculpted extremely well and is actually a lot more curvaceous than
her anime counterpart. She's very busty and has a great ass. It
was pretty surprising to me coming from a series of this type. I'm
guessing the sculptor wanted to appeal to the male audience with
her. ^^ I don't understand why she's made from translucent plastic
though. Oh well. Anyways, I'm hoping more of the Clow Card creatures
will be included in the future. Windy was a great idea.
While
I love the new ideas, some of the same problems reappeared. Some
of the figures' paint jobs were a bit sloppy. There're some bleeding
here and there and some of the figures weren't very clean. The first
series was actually cleaner than this series. Also, they used the
same soft plastic for the wands which lead to the same problems
with warping. (Use harder plastic dammit!) And once again, Shaoran
and Meiling were excluded from this series which is inexcusable.
Let me complete my circle of friends! :P
Overall:
B+
These are good gashapons/trading figures based on the Cardcaptor
Sakura show. But because they contain the same problems that I saw
in the first series, I gave them the same score. The inclusion of
a Clow Card creature was a great idea they need to expand on. All
CCS fans should check these out.
