An
okay set of figures. I was actually somewhat disappointed with them.
The sculpts for Sakura and Tomoyo are good but not great. The faces
look slightly warped so they don't look exactly like their anime
counterparts. I like the fact that they're all wearing their everyday
outfits (except the waitress Sakura which was a strange decision).
I also like the Tomoyo and Sakura figures that can be joined together
to form a small scene. But the swimsuit Sakura's pose looks weird.
I guess the sculptor wanted to show her tripping catching the beach
ball but it looks just plain odd. Kero's sculpt and paint for all
the figures is slightly off and he looks more like a bear than the
Kero that we all know. The paint for the figures are decent but
a little boring. They're all painted with flat colors. The really
weird thing is the skin tone of the figures. They're much too pale
and very "dead-looking". I think their skin tone should've
been warmer.
Another
thing that irked me were the stands. There's no way you can avoid
them. They're actually part of the bases so if you don't use them,
the bases won't hold up. The stick and the U-shaped prong were also
poorly designed. The prongs are way too big and it gave me a headache
trying to figure out which part of the figure they're supposed to
hold onto. If the prong was smaller, I think they would've been
easier to assemble. Overall, the stands don't work that well AND
they kill off the whole look of the figures. They stick out like
a sore thumb. What a shame.
Overall:
C+
I like the idea of showing the characters in their everyday environment
(except the waitress Sakura). But the design and execution of these
figures were fairly lackluster. The stands absolutely suck and they're
a big eyesore. Fans of CCS will probably enjoy them but I'm a big
fan myself and I wasn't very impressed with them. Decent effort.
